Rappers celebrate football and footballers celebrate rap. Memphis Depay also prefers to listen to rap privately. The striker is currently the beacon of hope for the Dutch national team at the World Cup in Qatar. However, due to an injury in September 2022, the 28-year-old attacker had to take a break and has not yet played at the World Cup. Nevertheless, it was clear to national coach Luis van Gaal - Memphis Depay has to go to the World Cup.
Footballers celebrate rap
Soccer is now an integral part of German rap. Almost every track contains a few lines about soccer stars like Neymar, Benzema, or Mbappe. But it also works the other way around. One or two footballers have even dared to use the mic themselves and released their own song. In addition to Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, Real Madrid's David Alaba, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Dutch striker Memphis Depay have also had their first rap experiences.
Memphis Depay releases own rap song
It's no secret that the 28-year-old Dutchman likes rap. The footballer has already published a handful of tracks on YouTube. "Heavy Stepper" is one of his top tracks with 1.6 million hits. The FC Barcelona striker has been on a mandatory break due to injury since September 2022 - but Depay seems to have used this break to record another song. Together with ex-national team colleague Quincy Promes, who is currently being investigated for attempted murder, Depay dropped another song a week before the start of the World Cup.
It is unlikely that Depay's rap skills will suffice for a great career. His skills in football all the more so. These have given the 28-year-old a successful career up to the Dutch national team. We're keeping our fingers crossed for Memphis Depay that he'll get fit again as soon as possible and maybe tomorrow (Tuesday, November 29th) he can support "Oranje" at the World Cup against hosts Qatar.
